On a beautiful Winter`s day in Nelson, New Zealand, we experience some sunshine during the day and have crisp, chilly evenings. We are much luckier than many countries where Winter

means actually ..... WINTER!!

We hunker down and wait for Spring to gleefully appear, sadly putting the beautiful Summer dresses into the back of the closet, until they are needed again.

However, as we are so lucky, why not wrap up warm in a funky jumper, cosy scarf and hat and venture out into this beautiful piece of the world! Making the most of this little piece of paradise, no need to wait for Spring to appreciate the beauty all around.

Just because Summer is ending, doesn`t mean your good mood has to.

As the Seasons change there is a lot to look forward to, Autumn colours in nature, brisk walks, snuggling up around the brazier and autumn BBQ-ing. It`s also a beautiful time of year to take a short break to see the rest of the country changing!

Here in New Zealand, we are very lucky as we have a easy transition into the cooler months, with chilly mornings and evenings but quite often glorious sun and warmth mid day, how lucky are we!

We can still wear our Summer frocks and just add cardis, tights and boots (or shoes), this is a great look and once the sun pops out and we`ve warmed up, we just have to de-layer with no bother or fuss.

We already have had a fabulous array of gorgeous knits arrive in store, with more arriving in the coming months, here a wee peak!

It`s clear now we are in for a long hot Summer.....

There are still things to do like take a trip, work on your tan or find the perfect recipe for a summer salad.......and then there are things you should do like workout, wear sunscreen or take the kids back to school shopping.

Making the most of your Summer days can be exhausting in the heat, so swim, drink plenty of water and enjoy the sunshine.

We are geared up for the hot weather in store with some lovely easy wear 1960`s inspired shift dresses to throw on to keep cool, during the day, evening, or over togs!

Time to hunker down for Winter and brighten up the grey days with colourful knits to accessorize your outfits, out with the old and tatty and in with the new and fresh to inject interest in your Winter ensembles!

Winter doesn`t have to be depressing with all the outfit possibilities it brings, cashmere over-sized scarves and wool berets ( both in store in various colour options) add to your dresses, cardigans and boots and it`s style all the way!

We are hearing a lot lately that many of you are trying to stay away from basic black and are looking for something a little different! Your wish is our command........ Although black is a classic essential, it`s lovely to lift the spirits with a pop of colour.

Here are some tantalizing tasters of what`s arrived in Frock&Soul this week and a few of the imminent arrivals too......

We have also added socks to the story this season to keep your toes cosy and add a little retro humor to your day.

This season, Frock&Soul is proud to be able to bring to you a selection of fair trade Organic cotton knits from one of our favourite suppliers, they use a fair trade certified factory in India that only uses organic fabrics.

These items are made by people who are paid and treated fairly.

The garments are made from the most sustainable fabrics and methods possible.

The suppliers spent a few days at the factory viewing all parts of the processes. they were very impressed with the worker's conditions, the evident professionalism and the dedication of all involved.

The factory is a family run business that has been in operation since the 1930's. About 17 years ago they realised the importance of operating in a more socially and ecologically responsible way. It was then that they gained fair trade certification and started using only organic cotton.

Their organic cotton is sourced from the Chetna project.

Chetna Organic works with small and marginalised farmers to improve their livelihood and make farming a sustainable and profitable occupation.

We also have a couple of delightful Fairtrade Organic Cotton long sleeve tops, essentials to add to your wardrobe!

Plus, soon to arrive, an organic vintage inspired wrap dress.

For all things womanly and wonderful, we are the shop to visit! We will be doing our very best to add the new products , arriving regularly, to the online store, as they arrive in store but they do leave as fast as they arrive!

Hello Spring!....We love you! Even though it's not quite warm enough to frolic care free on the beach or walk outside in short sleeves just yet, the promise of the warmer months is in the air.

Outdoors is looking prettier with the blossoms and blooming greenery! and we start to think about our gardens, wardrobes and outdoor activities with glee, emerging slowly from our winter hibernations with hopeful trepidation.

Happy to shed the winter bulky layers and darker colours for lighter and brighter ideas! Sunshiney days, hearts and flowers all the way.......

This season Frock&Soul is going to change things up a little. We will still have beautifully feminine fun outfits for you but we will be touching on the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s for our inspirations! Soft colours and feminine florals, fitted and loose clothing, fantastic accessories and gifts.

With the coming of a new season we have a new image.

Over the coming months Frock&Soul will be incorporating different decades into our portfolio for you, our customers, to enjoy.

But Ladies, don`t worry, if you are a lover of the 40`s and 50`s we will still be offering that era in lovely summer dresses and cardis too.

We will touch on the 30s through to the 70`s and everything in between.

We will source modern clothes with a vintage twist from all over the world.

You don`t have to be a hard-core vintage follower just a lover of style and quality.

Retro inspired clothing shop Frock & Soul on Hardy Street is under new ownership and owner Jenni Richardson is already planning some exciting improvements. “I’ve worked at Frock & Soul for the past 3 years and have seen the shop evolve. When we rebranded and moved the shop from Vintage Heaven on Bridge Street to our new location on Hardy Street opposite Hogey’s I became part owner together with Kate, the original owner. Earlier this season the opportunity arose to completely take over the business and I just knew I had to take it!" says Jenni

“What I love about Retro clothing is the style and uniqueness. Garments from that era are great for any body shape, including curvy women, and they’re really designed to make you look your best! We are importers for many of the labels we stock and we don`t bulk buy, this means you won’t find dozens of women all wearing the same thing. It really allows you to mix and match and create your own style.”

What’s also great about the labels they stock is that they’re big on ethical business, which means for example the people growing the cotton or making the garments get paid a fair wage. Frock&Soul really try to be ethically conscious!

Jenni plans to add 60s and 70’s inspired style to the existing range which is more focused on the 40s and 50s. She’s also extending her range of jewellery, really making this a one-stop shop to get your new outfit sorted.

She warmly invites local women to come in and check out the great range of tops, cardi’s, skirts, dresses, trousers and jackets at Frock & Soul. “If you haven’t yet been, or it’s been a while, we’d love to invite you back to have a browse. I know you will find something you’ll absolutely love!”

Frock&Soul are very excited to be able to make available for your pleasure some beautiful pieces of art to adorn your neck and ears.

These funky creations are the inspirations of Sue O`Shea, a Nelson artist. Sue originally hails from Wellington. but has made Nelson her home for the last 15 years. A New Zealand artist with a flare for design and a gift for precise and delicate work.

Originally trained in the art of embroidery, Sue went on to develop a business in Auckland, designing knitwear, having the garments hand knitted and then made public in stores in the city.

Sue then travelled around New Zealand with her husband and their journey took them to Hong Kong, where they spent the next 8 and half years. When their son William started at Primary school, Sue started to paint, another outlet for her creativity. She later exhibited in Hong Kong`s Red Gallery.

Whilst in Asia, Sue was drawn to the beautiful paper they had in the markets and started to collect paper from Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand. This gave way to floral inspiration and Sue started to make paper flowers, then Christmas decorations, which led to the Globe bead that has become a trade mark bead for her.

Loving the idea of charms, Sue created a charm like necklace, originally with kisses on one side and hugs on the other, this then developed into the range she has now with complimentary coloured designs on alternate sides of the beads.

Each piece is a unique, one of a kind creation, special for the owner and wearer!

As we hurtle into winter we are searching for super outfits that keep us looking good and keep us warm too! Frock and Soul would like to present some sassy little numbers that will delight in their colour, style and fit.

Autumn is a beautiful season, a second spring when every leaf is a flower. The time of year when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.

We are happy to announce that we have some gloriously flattering Tops in store.

I love wearing skirts any day of the year but if there is one season where I'm tempted to make them a daily uniform, it's summer.

The scarf has, over history evolved from a necessity to a fashion statement.

After much premature excitement, the warmer weather has finally come around and we are enjoying our first taste of real Spring.

However, the mornings and evenings can still hinder our choices on what we desire to wear and indeed the season is unpredictable.

But we can still shed our darker winter clothes and incorporate colour into our lives and still keep the chill off, then easily remove the layers when the sun shows it`s face .

Spring can be fun and who wants to be predictable anyway....

King Louie is one of our favourite brands.

Embroidery is a simple art form on clothing that's worldwide and has been for centuries. From beautifying peasants clothing to adorning royal gowns. The Lazybones skirt we have is a lovely example of this style of clothing.
